BCCI planning to host more ICC events after 2023 World Cup: Plan tournaments in the next 8 years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to bring more International Cricket Council events to home soil, The BCCI had the hosting rights to stage the T20 World Cup this year but the global T20 spectacle was moved to the UAE due to Covid-19 concerns and the monsoon season in India.

The T20 World Cup will be held in Oman and the UAE with the hosting rights remaining with the BCCI. However, India are on course to host the 2023 World Cup at home as the cricket board has the hosting rights for the said tournament.T20 World Cup in UAE: Full schedule and fixturesThe 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be the 13th edition of the men’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by India during October and November 2023.A source in the know of the development told AajTak: “We are planning for more ICC events for our country after the 2023 World Cup. Our plan is to bring more ICC tournaments. We are planning it properly. Once our plan will come up, we will pitch it to the ICC.”We are hopeful that we will be able to bring those tournaments. Our plan is for 3 ICC events in the next 8 years of cycle.”During the next ICC meeting, we will put forward our plan of hoting ICC event in India. Since our country has a huge number of cricket fans, we are hopeful that we will be able to make it. As of now everything is in the draft stage.”We have not decided anything but our plan is to bring more ICC events to India.”There are many things which impact the ICC FTP will have to see it. Let’s see how things go along in the future. It would be too early to comment now, he added.Notably, the ICC in June announced the expansion of global events for men’s cricket. After its virtual board meeting, it was confirmed that the Champions Trophy, an 8-team tournament, will be re-introduced and played in 2024 and 2028. The Champions Trophy will follow previous editions with two groups of four, semi-finals and final.The T20 World Cup, which is currently being played with 16 teams, will be expanded to 20 teams in the 2024-31 cycle. As many as 4 T20 World Cup tournaments will be played in the said period. The T20 World Cup will be a 55-match affair during the said period.The 50-over World Cup, which was brought down to 10 teams in 2019, will be expanded to 14 teams in 2027 and 2031. 54 matches will be played in the T20 World Cups.Meanwhile, the World Test Championship will continue in the next Future Tours and Programmes Cycle (FTP). World Test Championship Finals will be hosted in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031. However, it remains to be seen if there will be a World Test Championship final at the end of the current cycle in 2023. Notably, India will host a 50-over World Cup with 10 teams in 2023.
